A Helper in Time of Need
We all know that yes, teddy bears are great toys beloved by children everywhere. But they are much much more than that. They help their humans, especially the smaller ones, cope with a devastating loss or illness and give them comfort in the face of the unknown.
This section talks about these helper bears from Bunky Bear of Kids Beating Cancer where children arriving for cancer treatment at a Florida hospital are greeted with a Bunky Bear on their hospital bed to the adults who make the gifts possible. And to volunteers such as those in Boise, Idaho who sewed their 40,000th teddy bear in January 2019 for the small patients of St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital.
And lest we forget, let us not forget those first responders who are killed in the line of duty, and the effect this has on their families, especially the children. Florida teenager Megan of Blue Line Bears doesn’t forget; her father is a police officer and she knows what it’s like to face the possibility he won’t come home at the end of his shift.
First responders know the solace a teddy bear can bring; officers across the country carry teddy bears in the trunks of their cars to give to children traumatized by a car accident or shooting incident.
And teddy bear lovers young and old help keep the supply of bears coming as they gladly toss them onto the ice when their home minor league hockey team makes their first goal at a specified game. The record toss runs into the tens of thousands, often taking the human helpers, including players, time to collect. But, it appears, nobody minds the wait for the game to resume as it’s all in good fun for a good cause.
Keep reading as we discover and uncover myriad ways in which teddy bears serve as important helpers to their human friends.
